Well, if you've driven past the old Peavy Mart building lately and wondered what was finally going in there — now you know.
Pickleplex Social Club is coming to Airdrie.
The location is in Sierra Springs, just off Main Street, in the space that was previously Peavy Mart. It's one of those spots that's sat empty for a while, and it always generates the same conversation: "What are they going to put in there?" Now we have the answer — and honestly, it's a pretty good one for a city that's been growing as fast as Airdrie has.
What Is Pickleplex?
Pickleplex is a Canadian indoor pickleball facility chain. If you're not already familiar with pickleball, here's the short version: it's one of the fastest-growing recreational sports in North America right now, played on a smaller court than tennis with a paddle and a perforated plastic ball. It's accessible to a wide range of ages and fitness levels, which is a big part of why it's taken off the way it has.
Pickleplex — specifically Pickleplex Social Club — leans into the social side of it. This isn't just a place to book a court and show up. The "social club" concept is built around combining the sport with a social atmosphere, the kind of setup that's been working really well in larger Canadian cities.
Their Red Deer location opened in December 2025 and they have another on the way in Kamloops, BC. The Airdrie location will be one of their next additions to the lineup in Western Canada.
Why This Makes Sense for Airdrie
Airdrie has added a lot of amenities over the past few years as the population has grown. New restaurants, new retail, new recreational options — but there's still a real gap when it comes to indoor recreational facilities that aren't tied to traditional team sports.
Pickleball fills a specific niche. It works for families, it works for couples, it works for groups of friends who want something social to do in the evening. And because it's lower-impact than sports like tennis or basketball, you tend to see a wider age range playing it — which matters in a community like Airdrie that's seeing growth across multiple demographics.
The Sierra Springs location is also well-positioned. It's a central, established part of Airdrie with good access from a lot of the city's residential areas.
This fits into a broader pattern we've been seeing in Airdrie over the past year or two — more destination-style businesses choosing the city over defaulting to Calgary. The growth is there, the rooftops are there, and operators are starting to take notice. We saw it with Fazoli's Italian opening at Kingsview Market, and we're seeing it again with the wave of confirmed tenants in South Point Village Phase 2. Airdrie is attracting businesses that would have defaulted to Calgary a few years ago.
That's genuinely good for residents — and it's good for the long-term story of the city as a place where you can live, work, and have a life without making the commute into Calgary just to find something to do.
What This Means If You're Thinking About Moving to Airdrie
One of the most common questions I get from buyers considering Airdrie is some version of: "But is there actually enough to do there?"
The honest answer a few years ago was: "It's getting there." The honest answer today is closer to: "Yes — and it keeps growing."
Airdrie in 2026 is a different city than it was even three or four years ago. The recreational and commercial infrastructure is catching up to the residential growth. Pickleplex is another piece of that.
If you're weighing a move to Airdrie and lifestyle amenities are part of your decision, I'm always happy to give you a real picture of what the city offers right now — not the promotional version, just an honest look at what's here and what's still missing. There's a reason over 300 families I've worked with have chosen Airdrie, and the amenity story is a real part of it. You can also check out what's open at Chinook Winds Park this summer for another example of what makes Airdrie a great place to live.
No opening date has been confirmed for the Airdrie Pickleplex location yet. When more details come out, I'll share them.
