Is the Sorso Lounge Drive Thru Reopening in Airdrie?

Sorso Lounge's drive thru in Airdrie is coming back. After roughly five to six years of being closed, the new owners are actively working on getting it operational again. No official opening date has been set yet, but it's expected to reopen in the near future.

Well, if you've been defaulting to Tim Hortons or Starbucks every morning out of habit — your options in Airdrie might be about to expand.

Sorso Lounge's drive thru has been sitting closed for around five or six years. That's a long time, especially for a city that's grown as fast as Airdrie has over the same period. But the new owners are working on changing that — and according to Brad's latest update, it should be running again soon.

We don't have a specific date yet. But the fact that it's being worked on — actively, not just talked about — is a good sign.

What Is Sorso Lounge?

Sorso Lounge is a local restaurant and coffee spot in Airdrie. The lounge itself has stayed open and operating — it's well-reviewed locally — but the drive thru component was shut down about five or six years ago.

With new ownership in place, that drive thru window is getting a second chance. And based on the early reaction from locals, there's genuine excitement about it coming back.

The drive thru built a following before it closed. Comments on Brad's original video are full of people saying they used to stop there regularly and are ready to give it another try once it reopens.

Why This Matters for Airdrie

Airdrie's population has grown substantially over the last several years — the city has crossed 80,000 residents and keeps climbing. The coffee and quick-service options have expanded too, but they've been dominated mostly by the big national chains.

A locally owned drive thru gives Airdrie residents something different.

Tim Hortons and Starbucks aren't going anywhere. But having a local alternative — one with its own menu, its own personality, and genuine local ownership — adds something that the chains don't offer.

This fits a broader pattern we've been seeing in Airdrie lately. New and returning businesses are paying attention to how fast the city is growing and showing up accordingly. Earlier this year, I wrote about Pathway Burgers & Momos bringing a Nepalese restaurant to Kings View Market. Before that, Pickleplex Social Club announced they're opening an indoor pickleball facility in the old Peavy Mart location in Sierra Springs.

The Sorso drive thru coming back is another piece of that same story — Airdrie keeps growing, and local businesses are following.

When Will It Open?

Honest answer: no date has been announced yet.

The new owners are working on it. That's where things stand right now. Getting a drive thru operational involves more than flipping a switch — there's equipment, staffing, permits, and logistics to work through. They're in that process.

When something more concrete comes out — a soft launch, a date, any kind of preview — I'll get an update out. The best way to stay in the loop is to follow along on my YouTube channel where I post Airdrie news and updates regularly.

What Does This Have to Do with Real Estate?

Not directly — but it's worth thinking about.

When buyers are deciding where to put down roots, they're not just looking at square footage and price per foot. They're thinking about what daily life actually looks like. The coffee spots, the restaurants, the rec options, the community feel — these things add up.

Airdrie has always had a strong case for itself. The value compared to Calgary, the newer housing stock, the family-friendly communities — those are the obvious selling points. But the lifestyle details matter too. A locally owned drive thru might seem like a small thing. But these details accumulate into the texture of a city.

And right now, Airdrie's texture is getting better.
