Is Sofa Land opening a store in Airdrie?
Yes — Sofa Land is opening its sixth Alberta location in Airdrie's Sierra Springs area, next to the new Bluebird Storage building. The Alberta-based furniture chain already has three locations in the Edmonton area and two in Calgary. Construction is now underway at the Sierra Springs site.

If you've driven through Sierra Springs lately, you've probably noticed some activity on that lot next to the new Bluebird Storage building.
Well, now you know what it is.
Airdrie is getting a Sofa Land — and it's going to be the chain's sixth store in the province.
What Is Sofa Land?
Sofa Land is an Alberta-based furniture retailer that's been operating in the province for years. If you've spent time in Edmonton or Calgary, you may already know the brand — they run three locations in the Edmonton area and two in Calgary.
The Airdrie store will be their sixth location in Alberta, which is a signal that the brand sees Airdrie as a real market worth investing in. And honestly, that tracks.
Airdrie has been one of the fastest-growing cities in Canada for the better part of the last decade. When you have that kind of population growth — and the housing density that comes with it — retailers take notice. People need furniture. Especially new homeowners.
Where Exactly Is It Going?
The new Sofa Land is being built in Sierra Springs, in southwest Airdrie. The site is right next to the recently built Bluebird Storage facility — so if you know where that is, you've already driven past the future Sofa Land.
Sierra Springs is a well-established neighbourhood with solid retail infrastructure along Sierra Springs Drive, so this fits well with the area's commercial mix.
Worth noting: SW Airdrie has been seeing a lot of infrastructure and commercial development lately. The 24th Street to 40th Ave road connection is currently underway, which is going to improve access throughout the southwest end of the city significantly.
What This Means for Airdrie Residents
More retail options in the city is a good thing — full stop.
One of the recurring themes I hear from people who move to Airdrie is that they love everything about the city, but they still end up driving to Calgary for certain shopping trips. That's slowly changing as more brands recognize that Airdrie has the population to support them.
A furniture store is particularly useful for a city like Airdrie, where a significant portion of the housing stock is relatively new. New builds mean people are furnishing homes — and having a dedicated furniture retailer in the city cuts out that Calgary trip entirely.
It's the same pattern we saw when Lime moved into Airdrie to replace Neuron Scooters — brands are paying attention to what's happening here. Airdrie is no longer a city that gets overlooked.
When Will It Open?
Construction is currently underway, but no official opening date has been announced yet. I'll keep an eye on this one and update you when we have more details.
