What Is Vantage Commons in Airdrie?

Vantage Commons is a new 12.5-acre, grocery-anchored shopping centre planned for the SW corner of 24 Street and Vantage Way in Airdrie, inside the Vantage Rise community. The development will include over 133,000 square feet of retail across 15 buildings, anchored by a 33,500 sq ft grocery store. The site is currently in pre-leasing — no confirmed buildout timeline has been announced.

Another new commercial area is on the way to Airdrie — and this one's landing in the far southwest.

If you live in Vantage Rise, or you've been watching the southwest side of the city fill in, here's what you need to know about Vantage Commons.

What Is Vantage Commons?

Vantage Commons is a 12.5-acre, grocery-anchored shopping centre going in at the SW corner of 24 Street and Vantage Way, right inside the community of Vantage Rise.

The total development will have over 133,000 square feet of retail space split across 15 buildings in two sections — Section A and Section B.

That's a significant amount of retail for the southwest, which has been largely underserved since the neighbourhood started filling in.

What's Going Into Vantage Commons?

Section B (South Side)

The anchor is Building B1 — the grocery store, coming in at 33,500 sq ft. To put that in perspective, the Savon Foods in Cooper's Crossing is about 40,500 sq ft — so this would be a bit smaller, but still a full grocery store.

  • B2: 17,000 sq ft — the second-largest building in this section

  • B3: 3,000 sq ft drive-thru restaurant or coffee shop pad

  • B4–B10: Range from 5,400 to 7,700 sq ft each, with multiple dividable units — think smaller restaurants, services, and retail

Section A (North Side)

  • A1: Two-storey building at 20,000 sq ft — layout suggests possible daycare, though not confirmed

  • A2 and A3: 9,100 and 6,900 sq ft, dividable into multiple lease units

  • A4 and A5: 5,500 and 3,300 sq ft, same dividable format — with a drive-thru opportunity on the east side of A5

There's also almost a full acre on the site labeled as "automotive use" — purpose not detailed in the leasing documents. Whether it's a dealership, a detailing shop, or extra parking remains unclear.

Where Exactly Is It?

Vantage Commons sits at the SW corner of 24 Street and Vantage Way in the Vantage Rise community — one of the newer southwest neighbourhoods in Airdrie, currently developing on the far south end of the city.

The southwest has been a bit of a drive for groceries and services, so this development should make a real difference for residents. Airdrie's new SW Rec Centre is also planned for that part of the city — read more about the SW Rec Centre timeline here.

What's the Timeline?

Honest answer: we don't know yet.

The site is currently in pre-leasing — they're signing tenants now — but no construction start date or opening timeline has been announced. Once the anchor tenant (the grocery store) is confirmed and enough units are leased up, things will move faster.

Getting into pre-leasing is a good sign this is actively moving forward, not just a plan on paper.

What Grocery Store Is Going In?
