They're targeting a September 2026 opening. Lics has been a Calgary staple for over 40 years, operating out of their Parkdale location, and this will be their first storefront outside of Calgary — their second physical location overall.

Airdrie's Main Street is getting a sweet new addition this fall.
Lics Ice Cream Shop — a Calgary institution that's been around for over 40 years — is actively working on a new location here in Airdrie. According to the latest update, they're eyeing a September 2026 opening on Main Street, in the commercial space where Nutters and Playdoh's Closet used to be.
If you've never heard of Lics, here's the quick version: they've been serving out of their Parkdale, Calgary location for decades and also run a food truck. This Airdrie location would be their second physical storefront — so we're not getting a franchise, we're getting a genuine expansion from a beloved local spot.
What's on the Menu at Lics?
This isn't your standard soft-serve operation. Lics is known for going a bit beyond the classic cone:
Ice cream cones — the classic, done well
Ice cream cakes — great for birthdays or any occasion worth celebrating
Dirty soda — flavoured syrups and cream added to a sparkling base (if you haven't tried one, you should)
Ice cream tacos — exactly what they sound like, and apparently a crowd favourite
