Are Batting Cages Coming to Fletcher Park in Airdrie?
Yes — Airdrie Little League is building three new batting cages at Fletcher Park in Airdrie, Alberta. Two cages are going in on a larger concrete pad near the parking lot, and a third is going on a smaller pad between fields 2 and 3. Each cage will be 14 feet wide, 12 feet tall, and 70 feet long. The project is entirely funded by Airdrie Little League — no cost to the city beyond its normal park maintenance.

If you've been to Fletcher Park recently, you might have noticed two fresh concrete pads and wondered what's going in.
Now you know.
Airdrie Little League is adding three batting cages to Fletcher Park — and they moved fast. The city approved the project in June 2026, and the league had their plans ready to go. Once they got the green light, construction started almost immediately.
What's Being Built — and Where
There are two concrete pads going in at Fletcher Park:
Larger pad (near the parking lot): Two batting cages, side by side.
Smaller pad (between fields 2 and 3): One batting cage.
Each cage is 14 feet wide, 12 feet tall, and 70 feet long — real training infrastructure, not a backyard net. They're designed to give players a dedicated space to warm up and develop their swing without tying up a full diamond.

Who's Paying for It?
Here's the part worth noting: this project is fully funded by Airdrie Little League.
Not the city. Not your tax dollars. The league is covering the entire construction cost themselves.
The City of Airdrie's only role going forward is regular maintenance of the cages as part of their standard Fletcher Park upkeep — the same work they'd be doing whether the cages were there or not. Brad covers this at 0:32.
The city gets a free upgrade to a park it already maintains. That's a pretty clean deal.
Why Airdrie Little League Needed This
Airdrie has grown significantly over the past decade, and the youth sports programs have kept pace. Airdrie Little League is no exception — the program has been expanding steadily, and dedicated training space has been hard to find.
Batting cages solve a specific problem: they let players warm up and work on their mechanics without occupying a full diamond. For a program with a growing roster, having three cages across two locations at Fletcher Park is a meaningful addition.
The fact that the league broke ground so quickly after getting city approval in June tells you they weren't improvising. They had the plans ready — they just needed the go-ahead.

Fletcher Park is already one of the better multi-use parks in Airdrie — multiple diamonds, open green space, good parking. These batting cages build on what's already there.
