Bayside | Airdrie Neighbourhoods

Bayside is one of the larger communities in Airdrie, technically 3 different young and vibrant neighbourhoods called Bayside, Bayview, and Baysprings. Located in the southwest portion of the city, north of Yankee Valley Boulevard and west of 8th Street, Bayside is known for its impressive water access and overall safe neighbourly feeling.

Here you can enjoy a multi-season outdoor lifestyle with lots of green spaces, paved pathways, and canals. Many of the houses actually back onto or are a short walk away from a canal, where you can kayak in the summer or skate on in the winter.

Besides water features, there is a ton of opportunity for cycling, jogging, walking, picnics, or taking the kids to the playground. The pathway system makes extremely walkable and connected to surrounding areas. On the southeast corner of the neighbourhood is Bayview Park, which includes tennis courts, basketball courts, fitness equipment, and plenty of tables and grass space.

There is never a shortage of things to do and chances to get to know the people around you. Some of the highlights that community members appreciate are concerts on the canal when the weather is warmer and hockey rinks with open fires and chairs when the ice freezes over. Many of the home owners here work together to maintain skating rinks on the ice, so it’s not uncommon to see 3-5 rinks cleared side by side in the winter.

Also, during the holiday season you can be sure there will be a large amount of decorated homes, many with light shows and music.

Bayside is definitely a great option for those with young children looking to be a part of a friendly and active community with lots to do throughout the year.

As for amenities, right on the corner of the neighbourhood is Bayside Plaza where you can find local restaurant favourites like Sorso and Tequila and Tacos, as well as other businesses, professional offices, and a 7-Eleven.

If you’re looking for even more shopping and restaurants, you are still a short 5 minute drive to the Sierra Springs Shopping Centre, with bigger name stores like Walmart, Home Depot, and Winners.

It’s also about a 10 minute drive to Cross Iron Mills Mall and Costco, and a 15 minute drive to Calgary, and being on the west side of the city, you’re also that much closer to the Rocky Mountains!

If you do have school aged children, students from Kindergarten to Grade 4 will attend Nose Creek Elementary School, which is located right inside Bayside, middle school students grade 5-8 will attend Muriel Clayton School in Airdrie Meadows. This one is a bit of distance from the neighbourhood with how the attendance boundaries are currently set up. So, depending where you are in Bayside, it could be a 40-60 minute walk.

Students grade 9-12 will attend W.H. Croxford High School, which is right across from Bayside Plaza on the southeast corner of the neighbourhood. One thing to note is that it can get quite busy around school drop off and pick up times if you do live close to Nose Creek Elementary School specifically, nothing too crazy, just something to consider.

The first homes here were built in the early 2000s and feature semi-detached and detached single family homes ranging from the low to mid $300,000’s for those townhomes all the way up to those 1 million dollar luxury homes.

Bayside was built by well known builders such as Genesis, McKee, Stepper, & Calbridge Homes. New builds are still happening today, including on Bayside Island, a collection of high end and custom estate homes, and on the outskirts on the west side of the city. One thing people are looking forward to is the convenience that will come with the new bridge connecting Bayside Boulevard to 8th Street.

Overall, Bayside is a great location if you’re looking for a safe neighbourhood to raise a family, have great amenities a short distance away, and easy access to Calgary and the mountains.
